The German environmental services provider and raw materials trader Alba SE reported a loss in the millions for 2014. According to a Wednesday earnings statement, Alba had closed the year with a loss before taxes of €34.4m. With that, the exchange-listed concern had reduced the scale of its losses somewhat compared to the year before, when the pre-tax loss stood at €42.1m.

Alba put its net loss for the year at €39.9. This was likewise a modest improvement compared to 2013, when Alba SE recorded a net loss of €43.3m. The concern attributed the renewed losses to impairments of goodwill.

Commenting on the results, Axel Schweitzer, chairman of the administrative board of ALBA SE said, “The direction is right. The operating income, which is reflected in the Ebitda, clearly increased by nearly 29 per cent and shows that we are making progress with the restructuring of the group of companies. Of course, we are not yet satisfied with the figures.” He also noted that the economic environment remained challenging. "We thus focus on the things we can influence, position us more efficiently and adjust our business areas to the future,” he explained.
