British EfW plant operators launch RRUK "alliance"

Major British waste to energy (wte) plant operators have founded a new advocacy group for the energy from waste (EfW) sector in the UK. The companies behind Resource Recovery UK (RRUK) are Cory, Veolia, Viridor, Enfinium and Covanta's former European business, which rebranded as Encyclis early this year. The alliance is intended "to champion policies that enable the sector to fulfil its role as a key component of the UK’s sustainable future", its member companies said at the announcement of the launch in mid-June.

Together, the RRUK's members operate 24 energy recovery facilities in the UK and process approximately 15.32 million tonnes of non-recyclable domestic and commercial waste annually. As a whole, the sector generates 9,428 GWh of baseload electricity a year in the UK, enough to power approximately three million homes, according to RRUK....
