China remains far and away the most important growth market for new waste to energy capacity. Between 2008 and 2013, 61.3 per cent of the new contracts awarded were from the People's Republic, according to a recently published study by the Swiss consultancy Vaccani, Zweig & Associates. The European market was responsible for nearly 24.6 per cent of the world wide investment volume.
All told, Vaccani reports that contracts were awarded for a total.of 220,000 tonnes per day (tpd). At average operating rates, this would be equivalent to an annual combustion capacity of around 11.5 million tonnes per year.
