British paper and packaging group DS Smith has completed the sale of four recycling depots to the waste management company Veolia ES (UK) Ltd. The value of the transaction was not disclosed.
As a DS Smith spokesperson confirmed to EUWID, the depots in question are Avonmouth, Birmingham, Bolton and Leeds. The depot at Uxbridge will close, while the depot at Kemsley will remain part of the group's operations. DS Smith's site in Caerphilly is an office function and therefore not part of any sale, the spokesperson said.
In May 2023, DS Smith Recycling announced it had launched consultations about the potential closure of most of its recovered paper depots and job cuts at the business unit’s UK headquarters in Caerphilly.
