Essity boosts beverage carton recycling capacity in France

Essity has expanded the beverage carton recycling capacity of its Hondouville site in Northern France. According to the Swedish hygiene paper and product maker, this latest addition has increased its recycling capacity for this packaging type by 40 per cent, bringing it to 25,000 tonnes per year. The company says this is the equivalent of 60 per cent of the post-consumer liquid cartonboard packaging collected annually in France. The company has been recycling beverage cartons in Hondouville since 2008.

In addition to increased recycling capacity, the improved process also enables the recycling of almost all the materials in the packaging, including plastic and aluminium, according to Essity. The company has previously said that it would be able to extract 98 per cent of paper fibres in the post-consumer containers after completion of the expansion. Essity uses the recovered fibre as raw material for the manufacturing of tissue products for domestic use which it sells under the Tork brand name....
