German cement industry increasingly relies on alternative fuels

|

The use of alternative fuel in German cement works climbed again in 2011. According to annual report recently published by the association of German cement plants VDZ (Verein Deutscher Zementwerke), the use of alternative fuels in 2011 stood at 57.8 million GJ, compared with 53.7 and 51.5 million GJ in the two previous years.

Alternative fuels, such as waste plastics, tyres and oils, accounted for 61 per cent of the industry's fuel energy consumption. The figure was unchanged from 2010 but had doubled since 2000.
