Cologne-based waste management firm Interzero and Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt are partnering up to tackle the issue of lithium-ion battery recycling in Germany. The two companies will be forming a joint venture that is to establish collection system for spent lithium-ion batteries and build a battery recycling plant. The new plant – a large-scale facility designed to process 25,000 tonnes of spent batteries per year – is expected to be up and running in Germany by the end of 2023.
