The City of Berlin's waste management company Berliner Stadtreinigungsbetriebe (BSR) celebrated the official opening of its modernised Ruhleben waste to energy plant on Monday, BSR and its general contractor Fisia Babcock Environment announced.

With the completion of the project, in which four existing boilers dating from 1967 were replaced with a single new incineration line, the facility has a total combustion capacity of around 500,000 tonnes per year. BSR put its investment in the project at €150m and noted that the three-year project had been completed on time and without interrupting operation of the waste to energy plant.
