NOS tanks: Dutch waste industry disappointed by government response

The Dutch Waste Management Association (DWMA/Vereniging Afvalbedrijven) is "deeply displeased" by the approach the government has chosen for the problem of nitrous oxide canisters in the waste stream. The industry had been hoping for funding to offset the costs incurred for additional safety measures needed.

Operators of waste incineration plants have added pre-sorting steps to remove the canisters before they enter the facility where they often explode. The rejection of concrete financial support, in favour of a much smaller pilot project, is a "major setback" coming after extended talks with officials and a commitment by three ministers to explore financial support for impacted businesses, said the association

The Dutch Association for Refuse and Cleansing Management (NVRD) also expressed its dissatisfaction the plans announced in a ministerial statement on Tuesday....
