Plastic recyclers who are members of the German association for secondary raw materials and waste management (bvse) generated a turnover of around half a billion euros in 2010, according to interim results of a study conducted by the association together with Professor Thomas Pretz of RWTH Aachen University's Department of Processing and Recycling. 41 bvse members are active in plastics processing and recycling. According to projections based on data from 16 companies, bvse companies employed 2,300 people and together generated an annual turnover of €490m. Total authorised treatment capacity of the companies stood at 860,000 tonnes annually.
