Sensoneo tapped to provide IT backbone of Austrian DRS

The IT infrastructure behind Austria's future deposit return system (DRS) for beverage containers is to be supplied by the Slovakian company Sensoneo. EWP Recycling Pfand Österreich, the central body for the Austrian system, awarded two contracts to Sensoneo late last year, both covering consulting, software development, internet and support. The smaller of the two contracts is valued at €1.17m and the larger at €4.57m.

Slated to go online at the start of 2025, Austria's DRS for beverage containers is to cover all beverages sold in single-use plastic or metal packaging with a volume of between 0.1 and 3.0 litres with the exception of milk and mixed dairy beverages. Drink cartons will not included in the scope of the scheme when it launches. The deposit has been set at €0.25 for all covered plastic bottles and drinks cans....
