International scrap recycling group Sims Metal Management increased its foothold in the European market by acquiring Metrade Handelsgesellschaft GmbH and its subsidiary Metwork Aufbereitungs GmbH, via its Sims Recycling Solutions (SRS) e-scrap division. The Austrian companies are active in the non-ferrous scrap metals and electronic scrap recycling sectors. According to Sims, they have already made successful inroads into the rapidly developing Eastern European market, and their takeover will provide SRS with access to countries like Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia. Marc Faller, SRS' Director of European Business Development, said that the group's German operations have had a longstanding working relationship with Metrade and this will help in integrating the businesses swiftly.
