04.11.2019 −

The packaging manufacturer Alpla is further expanding its plastics recycling activities: In Spain, the company has taken over the recyclers Suminco S.A., located in Montcada, and Replacal S.L located in the city of Palencia. Both companies were part of a family-owned business with more than 35 years of experience in the production of HDPE recyclates. According to Alpla, the capacity of the plants, which are operated by a combined staff of 50 employees, will be increased to up to 35,000 tonnes per year. The operative business is to be continued with the existing management team. The parties to the deal have agreed not to disclose the terms of the sale.

"The investment in the two recycling plants in Spain brings us one step closer to our overall goal of being the leading manufacturer of sustainable plastic packaging," explained Georg Lässer, head of recycling at Alpla. The packaging manufacturer already has two PET recycling plants of its own in Austria and Poland (PET Recycling Team) and joint ventures in Mexico and Germany. The annual capacity of these plants currently stands at 70,000 tonnes of rPET.
