The British waste management company Sita UK has entered a partnership with Forth Ports Ltd, which owns and operates eight commercial ports in the UK. Under the terms of the deal announced on Wednesday, Sita agreed to purchase Forth subsidiary Nordic Recycling for an undisclosed number of shares and a long-term agreement. Moreover the Suez Environnement subsidiary has committed to deliver a new alternative fuels waste material processing facility to process both solid recovered fuel (SRF) and refuse derived fuel (RDF) at the Port of Tilbury where Nordic operates its 100,000 tonne per year materials recovery facility (MRF).

Sita said the new waste processing plant would be part of a multi-million pound investment which will complement the materials recovery facility. Tilbury Docks also houses the London Container Terminal offering Sita "a unique opportunity to transport alternative fuels and secondary raw materials, both domestically and internationally, by road, rail and sea," said the company.
