Suez receives EU approval to repurchase hazardous waste assets in France

The European Commission has given the green light for the owners of the "new Suez" to take over the French hazardous waste activities that had belonged to Suez prior to its acquisition by Veolia. The acquisition of joint control by financial investors Meridiam and GIP would not raise any competition concerns given its very limited impact on the structure of the market, the Commission announced at the end of October. The new company would have "neither the ability nor the incentive to close off access to incinerated waste and outlets for hazardous waste”.

Veolia and the "new Suez” reached agreement on the repurchase of the activities at the end of April. The companies said at the time that value of the activities was €690m. According to a report by newspaper "Le Figaro", the transaction encompasses around 20 sites with an annual turnover of "several hundred million euros”....
