British Viridor Waste Management Limited announced the acquisition of Storm Recycling Limited for £1.7m from its family owners on 7 June 2011. Storm Recycling, which is based in North West of England, specialises in cardboard and plastics recycling and handles around 20,000 to 25,000 tonnes of material annually, according to Viridor. Commenting on the acquisition, Viridor CEO Colin Drummond said: "Recycling is a fast growing part of Viridor's business and accounted for around 25 per cent of the company's profits in 2010/11." This acquisition will complement Viridor's recycling activities elsewhere in the UK and the recyclate from Storm Recycling will also provide additional volumes for Viridor's international trading arm, he added.
