Barely any recovered paper shipped to Asia, but prices remain high in Italy

Prices for Italian ordinary recovered paper grades remained high in May despite weak export business with Asia. Deinking grades and high grades were especially scarce. Another round of price hikes therefore surfaced for high grades in May.

Mixed paper was harder to source in May, too, several market players complained. Availability of this grade on the free market is severely limited since the Comieco recycling consortium for paper and board packaging allocates the majority of material. EUWID sources also described decent demand for mixed paper due to factors including the much higher packaging content of mixed paper due to strong online shopping. This resulted in some paper manufacturers replacing a certain amount of OCC with mixed paper in their feedstock mix, insiders explained....
