Demand for recycled PET in Germany still lacklustre in January

Germany’s PET recyclers continue to experience very challenging market conditions. Most recycling companies in Germany found that demand for flakes and regranulate failed to live up to expectations in January. Selling prices for clear flakes often had to be cut.

The industry is feeling the pinch from cheap primary PET imports from Asia. Sources often said that customers were shifting orders and buying cheaper primary PET.

Recyclers told EUWID that there was a growing trend towards converters replacing costly recycled PET with primary alternatives. Several bottlers are reportedly even considering not using any more recycled PET (rPET) for the remainder of 2023....
