German PET recyclers hope for seasonal upswing

The situation remained challenging for most German PET recyclers in March. With prices remaining low for primary plastics in Europe, and domestic recyclate still more expensive than either primary PET imports from Asia or imports of certified recyclate from overseas, German recyclers are facing pressure in their sales markets. "We are waiting for the start of the season,” said one recycler, hoping the warmer months will bring better recyclate sales to the producers of packaging for beverages and barbecue meat. However, another recycler who spoke with EUWID does not foresee much improvement in the near future, as converters still had good inventory levels.

There were very mixed reports about demand for flakes and recycled PET in March. A few recyclers described good sales volumes to other European countries and some inventory drawdown, whereas some of their competitors said they were still only able to sell around 70-75 per cent of their monthly production....
