German recovered paper prices up on pre-Christmas restocking

(D) – Prices for recovered paper in Germany edged up in October. Industry observers viewed the increase as an indication that paper mills have already begun stocking their warehouses for the Christmas season and are calling off more material.

Price fluctuations in October were more or less consistent with EUWID respondents’ expectations. However, the majority of EUWID respondents – especially consumers – had expected that September’s prices would continue to move sideways into October. They also noted that the normalisation of collection volumes after the summer holiday season had made it possible for buyers to eliminate the peak prices for special volumes in a few cases.
