Prices lower for bulk grades in Germany on plentiful supply and weak Asian exports

|

Prices for bulk recovered paper grades in Germany have been cut again in June. Continued poor exports to Asian markets and low demand from domestic paper mills characterise the German market. Collection volumes are generally comparatively high, although in some regions they are also slightly lower.

Because of the recent holidays and low order levels, players in the paper industry have recently taken downtime again, especially in the packaging paper and board segment. Consequently, the inventories held by paper mills and paper merchants are fairly high, in some regions even "full to the brim”.
In addition to the difficulty in finding buyers for paper from suppliers in Germany, sellers must now contend with Dutch paper initially intended for Asian export markets which is now making its way onto the German market. French merchants, too, are reportedly trying to sell recovered paper in Germany.
