Rising prices for bulk recovered paper grades in Italy in July

There were slight mark-ups again for ordinary recovered paper grades in Italy in July, but the market has likely peaked, observers say. Since the middle of the month, there has even been talk of possible price reductions in the Far East export market. The positive price trend for deinking grades continued in July, and some upward price adjustments were reported for the higher grades of recovered paper.

At the beginning of July, most merchants in Italy again marked up the prices of mixed paper and old corrugated containers. Some prices that were already high remained unchanged.

Market participants said that the latest adjustment was the result of strong call-offs from Italian buyers in combination with good demand from Asia at the beginning of the month.

Producers of recycled corrugated case material in Italy continued to have good activity levels and also continued to show strong demand for recovered paper, especially since they had to stock up for August.
