Prices for used PET bottles from deposit systems yielded again in September. Mixed grades, in particular, saw substantial price cuts. Recyclers have often criticised mixed grades, saying they contain too many collection bags and in September, they responded with price reductions. "We are bottle recyclers, not film recyclers,” said one.
Collection volumes yielded perceptibly last month. The was talk by some market participants about volume declines of as much as 20 per cent compared to the summer months. Nevertheless, recyclers had no difficulties sourcing volumes; they had their pick of what was on the market and toward the end of the month had been able to achieve further price mark-downs. However, it had not come to further inventory building for suppliers.
