Austria's Environment Ministry has published a draft version of the country's Federal Waste Management Plan for 2011. The draft forecasts total waste arisings in the country to increase from 53.5 million tonnes in 2009 to 56 million tonnes by the year 2016, mainly due to excavated material which is estimated to account for 25.9 million tonnes in 2016. Household waste volumes are projected to show only modest growth of roughly 40,000 tonnes over the next five years to 2016. In 2009, arisings of household and similar wastes stood at 3.9 million tonnes.
