EU Commission plans to withdraw circular economy package

The circular economy package with its proposals for amending EU Waste legislation is not included in a current draft of the EU Commission’s work programme for 2015, EurActiv reports.

It is not clear whether the Commission plans to table a modified waste management proposal. The draft programme stated that the circular economy package was withdrawn because it could not be foreseen that the member states and the European Parliament would reach agreement on the proposals, reported ENDS Europe Daily.

However, the work programme may still be modified before it is officially presented by the European Commission next Tuesday. At the start of December, the environment ministers of eleven EU member states urged the EU Commission in a joint letter to uphold the circular economy package.
