New taxonomy criteria officially published

The European Commission has officially adopted its delegated acts setting out the technical evaluation criteria for additional economic activities under the Taxonomy Regulation. The Commission had approved the legislation in principle in mid-June and it will enter into force once it is published in the Official Journal of the European Union and with most provisions applying from 1 January 2025. The EU Taxonomy Regulation is intended to direct investments into areas that make a significant contribution to achieving one or more of the EU’s six environmental targets while doing “no significant harm” to the other environmental goals.

The four environmental goals addressed in the now-adopted delegated act are: pollution prevention and control; the sustainable use and protection of water and marine resources; and the protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems....
