The British Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) ended months of speculation on Tuesday by announcing that there will be a further delay in the introduction of the UK's re-vamped extended producer responsibility (EPR) scheme for packaging. News of the postponement first became public yesterday morning in changes in the EPR guidance for potentially impacted businesses, but a formal statement was not made until much later in the day.
When it came, the Defra announcement con-firmed the changes in the guidance: "New rules to ensure packaging producers pay for the cost of recycling their packaging will be deferred a year from October 2024 to 2025."...
