British waste management company Biffa announced on Tuesday morning that it will provide logistics, sorting and counting services for Scotland's deposit return system for beverage containers when it starts up in August 2023. The contract with system administrator Circularity Scotland (CSL) is to run for ten years and involves an estimated £80m (ca. €94m) capital commitment (including property lease commitments). Among the services Biffa will provide are the collection of post-consumer bottles and cans from around 30,000 locations across Scotland and the construction and operation of three counting centres, said the waste management company.
