Ecoprog identifies more than 120 chemical recycling projects worldwide

At the end of 2021, there were over 90 projects for the chemical recycling of plastic waste in some stage of planning worldwide. More than 20 plants were in operation. Most of them, however, were not running as final commercial plants, but were intended to further on-going research on this technology. These current figures on the recent developments in the area of chemical recycling were compiled by the German consulting firm Ecoprog in a recent study.

According to the consultancy, even if there are still few commercial plants which have entered operation, the planning for chemical recycling plants is booming, particularly in Europe. The majority of the 90 projects planned worldwide are located in Europe, according to Ecoprog.
