According to estimates from Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE), some €1.75 billion was invested in plastics recycling across Europe in 2021. PRE’s figures show that recycling capacity has grown by 17 percent, from an annual input of 9.6 million tonnes to 11.3 tonnes. PRE president, Ton Emans, said, "The positive growth we can observe today will shape and further strengthen the market for recycled plastics towards meeting the EU targets."
He also pointed out the many challenges European plastics recyclers have experienced in recent years but went on to say, “However, with the increased advancements in legislation, stemming from the implementation of the Plastics Strategy and the Single-Use Plastics Directive, the recycling industry has weathered the crisis, showing its resiliency to external factors"....
