Euric calls for earlier phase-out of non-recyclable packaging

The European Commission's proposal for future EU packaging legislation establishes a "robust framework" for recycling packaging waste, according to the European Recycling Industries' Confederation (Euric). But the phase-out of non-recyclable packaging must be "dramatically accelerated" if the EU is to realise its ambitions for the circular economy and climate protection, the umbrella association said in a statement.

The EU Commission aims to ensure that from 2030 all packaging placed on the EU market is recyclable and that from 2035, all packaging is "recycled at scale". This means that packaging waste can be collected, sorted and recycled via state-of-the-art infrastructure and processes....
