The European Recycling Industries’ Confederation (EuRIC) says that while positive developments were made to the proposal for a Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) by the EU Parliament's Environment Committee, the report emerging after this week's vote is "a contradictory position that endangers packaging waste circularity and Europe’s recycling industry".
Among the umbrella organisation's chief concerns was that the preferred status given to closed-loop recycling, that is use of recyclate "in applications where the distinct quality of the recycled material is preserved or recovered in such a way that it can be recycled further and used in the same way and for a similar application"....
