The European Commission proposed the mandatory introduction of extended producer responsibility (EPR) schemes for textiles throughout the EU as part of its proposal for a targeted revision of the EU Waste Framework Directive released in early July. Along with food waste, waste textiles were a key waste stream addressed in the text. However, the proposal left many questions unanswered, Julia Blees from the European Recycling Industries' Confederation (Euric) remarked during an online event held by the German association Gemeinschaft für textile Zukunft (GftZ).
