Michelin, Antin and Enviro announce start of construction at Swedish tyre pyrolysis plant

Construction works have officially begun on a new recycling plant for end-of-life tyres (ELTs) to be located in Uddevalla, Sweden. The facility is the first of several full-scale recycling plants that Antin Infrastructure Partners and Scandinavian Enviro Systems (Enviro) plan to build through a joint venture which the companies established in the spring of last year.

Situated north of Gothenburg, the new facility is to go into operation in 2025 and have a processing capacity of 35,000 tonnes per year of scrap tyres, or the equivalent of 40 per cent of Sweden's annual ELT arisings. The joint venture partners are now moving ahead with construction after having finalised their shared investment plan for the project last month. The necessary environmental and building permits and authorisations have also already been secured, according to Enviro. Once the plant is up and running, the companies expect to employ a staff of 40 at the site.

After it has completed the Uddevalla plant, the joint venture plans to start building additional plants throughout Europe, with the aim of achieving a total recycling capacity of one million tonnes per year by 2030....
