River Metals Recycling, a subsidiary of Nucor Corporation, has acquired Garden Street Iron & Metal's Cincinnati-based assets, the US steelmaker announced on Monday. The transaction encompassed a feeder yard and a shredder yard and expanded River Metals' network to a total of 19 recycling facilities, said Nucor.

America's largest steelmaker pointed out that the acquisition was aligned with its overarching raw materials strategy and underscored its commitment to expanding the regional recycling platforms which support the group's electric arc furnace (EAF) steel mills. Another Nucor scrap recycling affiliate, Trademark Metals, purchased Garden Street's recycling facilities in Fort Myers, Florida in late 2021.

According to Nucor, River Metals Recycling is the largest scrap recycler in the state of Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati (Ohio) area. The company belongs to Nucor's David J. Joseph Company, a major US scrap metal broker and processor.
