PSLoop facility to recycle EPS insulation foam up and running

The first industrial-scale facility for recycling expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation foam has now commenced regular operations in Terneuzen, the Netherlands. The PSLoop plant is able to recycle polystyrene foam containing the brominated flame retardant HBCD which has been identified as a persistent organic pollutant (POP) and banned since 2016.

Last year, the German EPS Converters (GEC) Group bought the Dutch PolyStyreneLoop plant out of insolvency and relaunched activities at the site. The facility had now entered regular operations and was processing EPS insulation materials from demolition and refurbishment projects. "Getting the plant ready for regular operations was a tough job,” commented Holger Lübke, managing director of Karl Bachl Kunststoffverarbeitung GmbH &. Co. KG and one of GEC Group’s partners.
