Under the new EU Batteries Regulation, portable batteries and batteries in "light means of transport" (LMT), such as electric scooters and e-bikes, must be easily removable and replaceable, starting in 2027. To implement this requirement, the European Commission recently released a first draft of guidelines.
Two European umbrella associations representing the recycling and waste management industries say they support the issuance of the guidelines in principle. However, EuRIC and FEAD advocate for "further clarification and more universal removability rules to ensure effective implementation of the Regulation"....
