Recycling industry groups call for preservation of plastic waste entries in EU green list

Concerns that making PVC waste shipments subject to prior informed consent could hinder recycling

With representatives of the European Parliament and the Commission looking to wrap up their trilogue negotiations on the revised Waste Shipment Regulation (WSR) this week, associations representing the recycling and PVC manufacturing industries are calling on Brussels policy makers to reject proposed changes to the EU green list for intra-EU waste shipments.

The amendments, which form part of the European Parliament’s negotiating position, would see entries EU3011 and EU48 replaced with the corresponding, but narrower, Basel Convention entries B3011 and Y48. The letter's signatories argue that given the effectiveness of recycling within the EU, the changes will create additional administrative burdens without creating any added benefit for people or the environment, and instead hamper progress toward circularity....
