Tomra and Plastretur building sorting plant in Norway

Sorting technology company Tomra and Plastretur, the Norwegian compliance organisation for plastic packaging waste, are to jointly invest approximately €50m in building a sorting facility. Under the terms of their joint venture agreement, Tomra will hold a 65 per cent stake in the project, with the other 35 per cent in the hands of Plastretur, the companies announced.

According to the project partners, the new sorting facility will be the first of its kind in Norway and have a total annual capacity of 90,000 tonnes. It will sort separately collected plastic packaging into seven different mechanically recyclable fractions. These high-quality fractions would be “ready to be used to produce new packaging and other high-quality products,” Tomra and Plastretur said. Plastretur will be responsible for delivering packaging waste collected by local authorities and businesses to the sorting plant, while Tomra will sort the input materials and sell the plastic fractions reclaimed by the plant....
