Waste treatment resumes in Leverkusen after fatal incident

The hazardous waste incineration plant operated by Currenta in Leverkusen, Germany, resumed operations in mid-June after being closed for more than 10 months following a fatal explosion and fire.

Last July, several tanks filled with hazardous residues from the chemicals industry exploded at the waste management facility in the Chempark industrial park. Seven workers were killed and 31 injured in the initial blast and the fire that ensued....
