Zero Waste Europe and Reloop recommend sorting mixed municipal waste

Reloop and Zero Waste Europe published a new study last week supporting their call to make sorting mandatory before mixed municipal waste undergoes thermal treatment or landfilling. The chief advantage of such an approach would be that it would cut greenhouse gas emissions by preventing energy-intensive materials from being lost to landfill and energy recovery, they argued at the release of their report, "Mixed Waste Sorting to meet the EU's Circular Economy Objectives".
