The LME copper price continued to soar last week, breaking the $8,000 per tonne mark in mid-March for the first time since the end of July 2023. The upward trend on the exchange led to price increases on the German non-ferrous scrap metals market as well.

According to news agency MBI, wholesale buying-in prices for copper scrap rose by €5 per 100 kilogrammes at the start of the working week commencing 11 March. Brass scrap gained €5-10 depending on the grade and red brass scrap €5 per 100 kg. Prices for zinc scrap, nickel chrome steel cuttings and aluminium scrap all remained unchanged in weekly comparison, while the price of lead battery plate scrap fell by €5 in sequential weeks.
