Prices and uncertainty rising on German waste plastics market

As in all industries, the knock-on effects of the war in Ukraine are leaving a mark on the German waste plastics market. The industry is becoming increasingly uncertain about future demand and prices, with more than a few market insiders concerned that there is a recession coming.

March ushered in what in some cases were sizeable increases in purchase prices for raw materials and selling prices for recycled plastic. Frequently, there was not enough plastic scrap for recycling to go around. Another upturn in energy and road freight costs was compounding the difficulties faced by recyclers, EUWID sources added. It was also hard to arrange exports to Asia due to the scarcity of sea containers.
