Still no trend turnaround on the German waste plastics market

There has been no improvement in the mood on the German waste plastics market. Selling material was still a challenge for many recyclers in January. Demand was very weak, especially for PE and PP regrind and regranulate, according to recyclers. But for the first time in a long time, some of them reported an uptick in sales volumes of PP recycled pellet. However, recyclers were sometimes forced to accept substantial price reductions in sales to automotive suppliers. Overall, the market is described as very confusing and heterogeneous. There are still no signs of a trend turnaround, many respondents say.

The January prices for PS and PVC regrind and regranulate sometimes improved compared to December, but there was no consistent trend. In the HDPE market, the ongoing demand from waste bin manufacturers had a stabilising effect on prices, according to traders.
