Commission clears French state aid for SRF-fired power plants

|

The European Commission announced last week that it had approved a French aid programme for companies investing in the use of solid recovered fuels (SRF). The government plans to provide a total of €300m in direct subsidies in support of the transition to a net-zero economy.

According to the Commission, the funds can be used to support new installations or the repowering of capacities using SRF. To be eligible, at least 50 per cent of the alternative fuel must be derived from "renewable waste, such as leftover food or compostable waste from gardens". The aid for the use of these refuse-derived fuels (RDF) is to be distributed by 31 December 2025.
