Ugandan president announces import ban for used clothes

Imports of used clothing to Uganda are to be banned as of 1 September, the country's president Yoweri Museveni said in remarks reported by Reuters and Xinhua and later published on his official website. The president's comments, in which he encouraged Ugandans to buy domestically manufactured clothing, were made at a ground-breaking ceremony for nine factories in the Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park in Mbale City.

In his address, he said Ugandans should stop buying second-hand clothes. "They are for dead people. When a white person dies, they gather their clothes and send them to Africa," Mr Museveni said....
