The scrap recycler European Metal Recycling (EMR) is planning to build a battery recycling plant in the Billbrook district of Hamburg. This facility is to have the capacity to process up to 10,000 tonnes of lithium-ion batteries each year, according to the Official Gazette of the Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Murat Bayram, managing director – metal recycling at EMR, told EUWID that the plant’s capacity is to gradually increase to 25,000 tonnes of batteries each year. Mr Bayram did not specify how much EMR was investing in the pilot plant, putting it at “a significant number of millions of euros.” The goal was to commission the plant in the summer....
