The environment division of FCC closed out the first half of 2019 with revenue growth in both its home market of Spain and in Central and Eastern Europe. New waste treatment plants, new contracts and contract renewals increased the division's sales by 5 per cent to €1.46bn, the Spanish environmental and construction group reports in its financial statement for the first six months of the year. The division's earnings before interest and tax (Ebit) stood at €106m, up 2 per cent from the first half of last year.

In Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), FCC is active through the businesses which formerly operated as A.S.A. New remediation projects at contaminated sites in the Czech Republic, higher volumes in its business with industrial clients in Austria and Hungary and good performance in Poland drove up first-half sales in the region by 5 per cent to around €231m.

In Spain, the division achieved revenue growth of 8 per cent with €846m in sales. In contrast, revenues stagnated at €356m in the UK following the completion of a waste to energy plant construction project.
