The Swiss building materials group Holcim has announced the completion of three bolt-on takeovers to expand its solutions and products for green growth. The newly acquired entities include the Greek company WATT Recycling, which is active in the recovery of paper, plastic and metals and in the production of alternative and refuse-derived fuels (RDF). It was taken over by the Holcim subsidiary Heracles Group.

According to Holcim, WATT is one of the fastest-growing companies in Greece’s recycling sector. WATT operates two material recovery facilities with an annual sorting capacity of over 150,000 tonnes of municipal waste in Fyli in northern Athens and in Koropi in the southeast of Greece's capital city.

By integrating WATT, "Heracles Group will offer an integrated solution for solid waste management, minimising the quantity [of waste] sent to landfill and offering multiple benefits both for the environment and local communities. It will combine both WATT RECYCLING's expertise in recycling packaging waste and Holcim's expertise in the management of bulk waste and construction demolition materials, creating a local leader in the circular economy", Holcim reported.

Another acquisition involves the British company Eco-Readymix, which Holcim describes as a leader in advanced mortar solutions and concrete. The firm already runs two sites in northwestern England, with a third to open soon.

The third transaction saw Holcim purchase a majority stake in the Spanish firm Artepref. The Swiss building materials group said that Artepref was a leader in innovative precast concrete solutions for industrial, commercial and logistical applications. The takeover will see Holcim enter the fast-growing Spanish market for industrialised construction and add to its portfolio of advanced low-carbon and circular construction solutions.

Holcim did not release any information about the purchase prices for the three acquisitions.
