EU ferrous scrap exports edge higher in the first half of 2023

EU ferrous scrap exports to countries outside the Union are on the rise again. A drop of almost 10 per cent in shipments to third countries in 2022 was followed by a 4 per cent increase in deliveries between January and June 2023. The latest provisional data from Eurostat indicate that the EU’s 27 member states exported 9.0 million tonnes of ferrous scrap with a total value of €3.6bn in the first half of 2023. By way of comparison, the EU had shipped just 8.7 million tonnes to third countries in the first six months of 2022. However, the exports were valued at €4.1bn, which reflects the downward trend in ferrous scrap prices since last year which has also been mapped by EUWID market research....
